This decision is not surprising. While leading video services like Netflix, Prime Video, and YouTube are clearly the biggest contributors to clogging up data traffic, the user size of Facebook and Instagram (Facebook had 288 million daily users in Europe in summer 2019) could add to the strain if those users are more active than usual.
Both Netflix and YouTube said they would cut picture quality for 30 days while Disney also announced a reduction in overall bandwidth usage of at least 25% in all European countries when it launches Disney+ next week.
While this isn't very pleasant news if you're a fan of social media, it can help people work from home. Video streaming can take up two-thirds of traffic on fixed and mobile networks.
