Google is also introducing “InteractionID” for the Event Timing API in Chrome 96, allowing developers to collect performance-related information easily.
MediaKeySessionClosedReason is also now being added to MediaKeySession so that the JavaScript player can function accordingly in case the session closes due to the user folding the laptop screen or a serious problem occurs due to some error. This error may be related to the W3C Encrypted Media Extensions (EME) specification that provides a communication channel between the browser and the Content Decryption Module (CDM).

However, this feature is only implemented on the Chrome browser for computers.
In terms of developer improvements, Chrome 96 comes with COEP: credentialless to prevent leaks of random processes, allows WebAssembly modules to hold references for DOM objects, and allows website owners to respond to contrast modes on Windows and macOS via “prefers-contrast” Media Query.
In keeping with W3C specifications, Chrome 96 prevents the flow of CSS properties from the content to the view window when contained and packs a “speak-as” descriptor for counter CSS styles. This change is a significant improvement for users using speech synthesizers on Chrome.
Also, mathematical functions in CSS can now use “”. Finally, several other data properties are also being added on Chrome 96 so that end-to-end latency and synchronous audio-video synchronization can be easily measured in the RTC system.
